If You’re Stopped by the Police...
Keep this card handy!
If you have an encounter with police or a resource officer, you can protect yourself.
 Stay Calm, Stay in Control.
 Do NOT Run Away!
 If Questioned, You Have the Right to Remain Silent. Say You Wish to Remain Silent! (In some states, you must identify yourself if asked.)
 If Searched, Say: “I Do Not Consent to a Search.”
 Ask: “Am I Free to Leave?”
 If Arrested, Ask for Your Parent/Guardian & a Lawyer Immediately
 You do not have to tell the police about your immigra on status.
 Remember What Happened, Write it Down, and Tell Your Parent or Guardian

A Police Officer is Allowed to...

STOP, SEARCH, and ARREST
 Stop you if they believe you commited, are commitng , or will commit a crime. Not if you “look” suspicious.
 Search your car if they reasonably believe it contains something illegal.
 Pat down clothing only if they believe you have a weapon or illegal items.
 Arrest you if they believe you have commited a crime.
